The Henry Moore Foundation was founded by the artist and his family in 1977 to encourage public appreciation of the visual arts.
Today they support innovative sculpture projects, devise an imaginative programme of exhibitions and research worldwide, and preserve the legacy of Moore himself: one of the great sculptors of the 20th century, who did so much to bring the art form to a wider audience.
Smart Urban Sensing Ltd installed multiple systems within one of Britain’s most prestigious & largest sculpture art galleries based in Leeds UK. The Henry Moore Institute neighbouring the Leeds art gallery had our highly accurate people counting & tracking systems installed throughout the site delivering visitor usage, footfall and people flow tracking data.

The Henry Moore Institute used to previously undertake manual tasks such as counting people / visitors with a manual clicker into each of the gallery halls and consistently was processing incorrect data with error margins of greater than 20 % daily.
Each day at closure staff would be required to record the footfall data from the security staff into a monthly logbook and input it into the recording and reporting system. The venue did not have accurate data reflecting the visitor usage and analytics of the different galleries and halls within this prestigious building.
The art gallery is funded by the UK government in which funding is received according to how many visitors attend the venue throughout the year. Our AI – 3D counting systems give a true and highly accurate number of visitors, rather than basing the footfall figure on manual counts from humans and for example the number of tickets allocated (for example when a bus load of children enters under one group ticket).
The real-time footfall and footfall occupancy counts for each area also means that the Henry Moore Institute can allocate security guards or other staff members to specific exhibition halls. This has reduced costs and has directly improved visitor experience, also allowing management and staff to plan, market and arrange special events to enhance customer visitor experience and increase the number of visitors to the venue based on the highly analytics visitor and usage data we delivered from our AI counters.
The art gallery also wanted to understand specifically how long customers spent in the exhibition and where they spent their time. They wanted to check which way people traffic flowed around the building and what the dwell times on particular sections of the exhibition were, so they could learn from this for future planning and effective staff management.
